Our next stop was at Far West, Missouri. At one point this was the largest settlement in Missouri with over 5,000 people. This threw off the local political balance. Governor Boggs signed an extermination order saying the Mormons must be driven out of Missouri or exterminated. Not really the American way, eh? Mobs drove the Mormons out once again.
Before they left, the prophet had dedicated this area for temple to be built and cornerstones were laid. Missionaries left for their missions from this area, despite the mob threats.
The kids touched the temple cornerstone.
There are not many settlements in this area in modern times . . . just a lot of farmland.
