We are so glad we had the chance to stop in Kirtland, Ohio (near Cleveland) on this trip. We have never been to Historic Kirtland, nor the Kirtland Temple. The kids were excited!
The temple was not actually white when it was orginally built. It was more ecru.
We enjoyed the historical tour of the building.
Next we checked out the visitor's center in the historic area.
We had to take the express tour of the Whitney store, only. The Church has restored a lot more than we realized. There were at least eight different buildings we could have toured.
Newell Whitney took meticulous records and here's a record of some things Joseph Smith bought there.
The upper area was where the prophet, Joseph Smith, and his family lived for a while when they first moved to Kirtland.
Here is where the School of the Prophets was held.
Some baptisms were performed in this creek.
The grounds here were spectacularly gorgeous.
Here is the spot where Joseph and Emma later moved to.
