At Typhoon Lagoon

Our family headed to Typhoon Lagoon at Disney World to cool off in the summer heat.
Orrin enjoyed exploring the park's cascading waterways.

The main lagoon had relaxing periods of calm fun.
But when the waves started coming on . . .
Watch out for the Tidal Waves!

 Aleya even loved the waterslides.

There were several very fun waterslides.

We all love the lazy river.

They even have a saltwater area to snorkel with fish, sharks, and stingrays.

Jacksonville Zoo

Normally, I would not go to the Jacksonville Zoo in the heat and humidity of July, but we wanted to go see the animatronic dinosaurs, like we enjoyed at the Wild Animal Park in San Diego.

We enjoyed all the life-size dinosaurs.

The grounds at the Jacksonville Zoo are well-groomed and lovely, a little reminiscent of San Diego.  Several of the ponds were completely swampy, covered in green slime.  That's typical in FL at this time of year.  It's a great place for alligators to hide.

This zoo has it's own stingray petting area, as well.

They have giraffe feeding here year-round.

We ended our fun with a carousel ride and a quick trip to our air-conditioned car.  We'll have to come back when it is cooler.

At the pool with Dad on the 4th

Today the girls had a  rare day at the pool with their dad.  Thank you Federal Holiday.

Christian often works long hours and does not have time to join us at the pool.

Today, Aleya was brave enough to attempt the high dive.

A few claps and here she goes!

Ta-da!  Aleya survived the high-dive!  Then, there were some logs in the pool, so we moved over to another community pool with splash-park.

Amara is in a watery jail.

 Swimming in the shallows.

Aleya is swimming like a fish, just like Amara.

2011 4th of July

We watched at local fireworks display for the 4th this year at Christ's Church.

It was a pretty impressive community fireworks show.  Then again, many individual residents in our neighborhood tend to put on pretty impressive displays, but this year there is a fire ban.

Luau at Eagle Harbor

Christian and I attended at Luau at our community pool.

It was put on by some residents of our community.

 Christian learned how to hula.

He wanted me to make sure to get a picture with the "hot" dancers.

Blue Springs

I've been wanting to tube at Blue Spring since we moved to Florida.

The water was cool, clear, and crisp, but since it was so hot and humid, it was refreshing!

It was a lovely natural lazy river.

We met Orrin's San Diego friend, Sean, and his parents here at Blue Spring.  They own a condo in Daytona.  Orrin also had a chance to hang out with Sean in Daytona for a few days.

Sean's parents.

Once you finish the tube run, there is a nice scenic stroll on a boardwalk back to the start.

 We had lovely day together.
