Road Trip--1st stop Salt Lake City

We didn't leave San Diego until about 10:30PM. It was tricky getting the last few items stowed away in our trailer and our car. Andrea tried a desperate last cleaning of the house when the inspection came up short. She shoudln't have bothered because she was charged an extra $200 for cleaning, despite her efforts. Don and Carol Bone helped our family 'til the bitter end and carted off all our leftovers. We dropped our other car off with the Juliens to be picked up by an auto-moving company. Then we headed north on I-15. Coon, our cat, was MEOWING all the way. Christian decided to let him out of his carrier and finally settled down a bit after exploring the whole car.

We stopped to sleep a while in Barstow. We got there about 1:30PM or 2pm. We slept in a little, and then continued north on I-15 toward Salt Lake. We arrived in the evening, safe and sound.

The next day, we stopped in to see Grandma and Grandpa Yates.

The kids are getting bigger and the grandparents are getting gray-er . . . or white-er.

We had a nice meal with the Capener grandparents.

Joseph and Alan hung out for a while. Alan is the nearest cousin, in age. They're about six months apart.

Luke and Orrin are about a month apart in age. They had a great time playing together.

I took the girls with their cousin, Oselle, to a phenomenal indoor waterpark in Murray. This worked out because of the really cool June weather they were having in Salt Lake. It was too cold outside for any pool fun.

They really had a great time together. See the scar on Aleya's forehead? She fell and split her forhead open a week or so ago, the day before the moving truck came.

The boys came up with a make-shift game of baseball in the backyard with the cousins. Where's the bat and ball? They tried firewood logs as the bat, but they just exploded in bark chips. Then they tried other sticks and then the broom.

Christian's parents arranged a nice family get-together at the Gardner's before we got back on the road toward Florida.

The girl cousins wasted no time in getting glamorous.

The cousins always have a great time together.

Amara lucked out with another sleepover with her cousins.

Christian and I attended a session at the new Oquirrh Mountain Temple.
Our kids saw some new cousins this trip: the Head cousins. They are the kids of my step sister, Heidi.

We met at a park, but it was such a chilly week in Utah. Our visit was cut short as it began to rain. After the park fun, we set out for Wyoming. We hoped to get there shortly before dark on our journey eastward.

Quick diversion: Post-Memorial Day

A week late, but we decided to head down to Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery. It has been a tradition for us to go there every Memorial Day.

Next, we headed to Cabrillo National Monument to explore the tide pools.

It was a short diversion from the stresses of the move.

Move-out. Too traumatic for pictures?

So, I didn't take ANY pictures of all the boxes and the movers and the moving truck. I guess it was too traumatic to remember. Moving out was more difficult this time than we have ever experienced. There was so much leftover trash and garbage that a super nice friend carted off for us in multiple trips, using his spare trash cans. He helped us disassemble all the big stuff and helped touch up the stain on the cabinets in the kitchen. We had so many ward members help us. We could not have finished up without their help . . . or at least it would have taken us several more days to get out.

My daughter, Aleya, did get our camera afterwards and snapped some funny photos showing the empty house.

Haley entertained Aleya, while her mom and I scrubbed down the house.
